Why now
AI is making biotechnology more powerful, more accessible, and more dangerous. The cost of synthesizing dangerous pathogens falls every year, while our surveillance, stockpiles, and safeguards remain largely where they were after COVID-19. We have the defensive technologies — what we don’t have is time.
A clearinghouse for biosecurity
The biosecurity field is fragmented — funders can’t always see where money is most needed, researchers and builders struggle to find backers, and promising work stalls in the gaps between institutions. SAIFbio serves as the field’s clearinghouse: a central point where philanthropists, scientists, and policymakers connect, so capital flows to the highest-impact gaps and no critical effort falls through the cracks.
